So, How Many Species Are There?

Drumroll, please! There are over 200 species of agave out there in the wild. That's right, over 200! It's like a succulent party out in the desert, with each species bringing its unique flair to the mix. Of the 200-plus species, only ONE species can be used to make Tequila, which is the Blue Agave species. The other main spirit produced is Mezcal, and approximately 70 different species are used in its production.
