Other agave and distilled spirits from Mexico

Sotol, bacanora, and raicilla are Mexican spirits, often grouped with tequila and mezcal, but with distinct characteristics. Sotol is made from the Dasylirion plant (Desert Spoon), not agave, and is produced in northern Mexico. Bacanora is a mezcal made specifically from the Agave angustifolia plant in Sonora, Mexico. Raicilla, also a mezcal, is produced in Jalisco and Nayarit using various agave species and is known for its aromatic, sometimes smoky flavor.
